Welcome to the new #gamemp3s!
Let me be the first to welcome you to the new #gamemp3s website!
Please join me in thanking lavender for the design and layout, and look forward to some newer features that we will be adding soon. Please let us know what you think, I'm sure we will be changing this new design a bit here and there.
- The Captain
edit by lavender:
If you had changed the path to the new-releases RSS feed, you can change it back now. It's /category/releases/feed/. Sorry about that!

We wanted to get this switched over as soon as possible, so parts of the site will be a little rough for a bit. Don't worry, i'm working on the obvious problems right now!
also the little swirly logo thing is not especially permanent
comment #2
Looks fresh. Good job!
Looking forward to those new features.
Ditch the xhtml, it's totally broken, nothing in firefox/opera and only works in IE because IE treats it as normal broken HTML if it fails to parse. The hilarity is compounded by the "XHTML " at the bottom of every broken page.
What does XHTML buy you over HTML? Nothing but total parse failure at the tiniest syntax error, which may come from an incompletely validated comment rather than the page generation code. It's not worth using unless you're testing internally or feeding the pages to an xml parser to extract data from.
Good design, good job! :)
The color and the conception of site is pleasant, that make your spirit relax .
thank you guys , and keep like that . ;)
@foxy:
(1) I don't consider it 'hilarity' when i point out that some things might be broken and then... shock... some things are broken.
(2) The fact that i'm serving the pages as XML is what causes 'total parse failure', not the fact that it's written in XHTML. More specifically the parse error was caused by a messed-up PHP loop.
(3) I LIKE IT
also (4) stop stealing my firetruck material
comment #8
Have you tried wrapping every other comment in a box too? It looks a bit out of place next to the others. Keep the changing colors but right now the white comments look like they do go a bit under.
I tried it at first but it didn't look very exciting to me. Also it's more complicated to make sure the borders don't double up and stuff.
awesome, Love the new site. And the little Dreamcast Esque swirly thing is kinda nice. I like it :) Keep up the good work.
Hahahaha at the mirrored dreamcast logo. :D Nice and clean design. Me rikey.
Good JoB Boys....thanks for your Job from Italy
comment #13
Care to make the body and "posted by" text each a little smaller? I think it blends with the subject too well.
New design is pretty good. Could do with a separator or green border around the topics to distinguish between updates though.
This looks really awful, I'm sorry.
@ ppls:
The 'Dreamcast logo' is some glyph thingie from the Cambria font. I just found it one day and started using it as a place-holder. It'll be replaced when we come up with something better....
@ Kukeiha:
One thing we wanted to get away from with this design was the crazy-small font size we were using before. The postbit text is the same size as the body text in the last design, and it's as small as we're going to go. The body text here is a little bigger and is the perfect size i think. The headings are all the same size, but i don't see any pressing reason they need to stand out much more. They're already bold.
@ Adamtehgreat:
What, there is a separator!
@ dfhdf:
:(
comment #17
This is pretty slick. Good job!
I miss that old square wave/sine wave mouse roll-over though. (which is still the favicon?)
The RSS logo and the "dreamcast logo" clash, and make the overall appearance too busy.
More like this (PS mockup)
http://i14.tinypic.com/4pjuwyo.gif
easier to distinguish for me anyway
comment #19
Huzzah for soft colors easy on the eyes (still prefer blue over green, but I'm biased:) ). I think the heading of the topic would be a bit easier to notice if it was a tad bigger and remained bold, but that's me. Great job!
Ack! Where have the sfv files and encoding info for albums gone? I haven't thought to check for them recently, so if they have been gone for a while... ignore me. Sorry for double post.
Excelllent.... Awesome design, that Dreamcast logo really gives a special touch... I like it. Well done.
@ jt4703:
It's not your imagination, they're not there right now. They had been updating the album list and release history manually with all that information, which i think is crazy, so i'm converting it all into an automatic database-type thing. The encoding information is there, i just haven't got around to making the database table, blah blah blah. In other words i'm working on it!
This is...amazing. I came back here to check if there was anything new, and BAM! GREEN! My favorite color's blue, so I still miss the old layout, but this is very nice and soothing. I love this shade of green.
And keep the swirl! The swirl was what won my heart over the moment the page loaded. =)
Would a search bar be included in the upcoming features?
You kids and your search bars....
For a moment there, I thought I went to the wrong website, LOL!! I was like "NOOOO they're gone!" And then I see that you're just more greenie. Like some others have said, I prefer blue over green. But I don't mind this colored layout either. It's wonderful!
I like it, but lavender why not go with lavender instead of green?
WOW! The design is very fresh and I like the colouring as well. Thanks a lot and good luck in the future. I'll be here as well =)
I dig the design -- keep up the good work, and thank you =)
Very refreshing - it looks and feels more neat. Awesome job.
Looks great in IE (ugh), but still broken in Firefox (page loads for a split-second, then defaults to style-less text). I'm assuming you're spending time fixing that, though. So, great job! I love the green.
Another thing that would be great; Link the #gamemp3s logo on the top left to your mainpage. I'm not sure it was there with the old one but I think it was. I know there's a news link on the right but the big logo is much more easier to click on and I strangely find myself doing it all the time - which supports my theory that the logo on the old page was indeed linked.
This is completely broken in Firefox 2.0
comment #33
Wow, this looks really great! :D Wonderful.
This new theme isn't too bad. It's minty fresh! =P My only suggestion is to change the color of the star next to the staff members name for comments so it stickes out more. It blends in too much with the new theme to the point where it's almost not noticable.
The scheme I don't care for, but can deal with. However, can you ditch the arrow in the buttons up top? Makes me expect a dropdown menu. If it's a dot, or an arrow pointing up, or something else that's fine. But down arrow at the top w/o a drop down menu is a no-no.
The gray color of the stars makes it not stand out like when they were blue before. Also I'm sad that there is no useless mouseover effect. Unless I haven't found it yet.
I loved the new theme =]
@ Tom Kenney:
Godai would get mad :(
@JazzFlight and Atreus:
It works for me and several people in the channel. Either you have a configuration issue or you were experiencing the unsurpassed quality of our Web host!
@Emil:
I really don't like doing that, because it usually requires stuff that makes the page look structurally retarded. Also like you said it's redundant!
I'll look into the arrows and stars.
Most web pages that have a logo in the upper-left link it to their home page. It may be redundant, but many people (myself included) are used to being able to click there.
Other than that I like the color, I can't say much about the layout yet because it's style-less in Firefox (which I know you're working on). Just make sure there's a useless mouseover animation and I'm happy.
Nice job guys. The shades behind every other comment looks great! Time to go play with the site a bit ^_^
comment #42
@lavender:
Well, foxy above also has a problem with the rendering.
I'm pretty sure it's not just an isolated incident if at least 3 people are having problems under Firefox. Shouldn't a web designer ensure that he has the highest browser compatibility?
The site is rendering fine for me on Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.1.3) Gecko/20070309 Firefox/2.0.0.3.
@GenericLoser:
Most Web sites aren't designed to degrade properly without style sheets or be organisationally sound. The standard way to achieve what you guys want is to use an HTML image (as in the img tag). This is semantically the wrong way of doing things, because (1) images obviously do not degrade properly and (2) images do not convey any semantic meaning, which wrecks search-engine results, &c.
That said i will try to figure out a way to make it do what you guys want.
@JazzFlight:
Foxy's problem was expected and reproduceable and happened for anybody using any browser that accepts the XML+XHTML MIME type. And i fixed it.
I think your problem may be that Firefox is not very aggressive when it comes to caching. You probably tried to view the site when our host was messed up, and Firefox couldn't load the style sheet properly, and now every time you come back it's still trying to load the same way. Clear your cache and let me know if that doesn't fix it. :/
comment #45
Looks fine in Firefox for me, except that Firefox is generally ugly to begin with >.>
Looks fine is Opera as well, which is pleasing.
Essentially (for the coding impaired, like myself) nothing really changed on the site though, new color scheme, and its now flipped, with the nav bar on the right instead of the left.
I like it. Its still as simple as ever, and hey, green is my lucky color.
I like the cut of your jib, You.
There you go, guys. It's clickable. Don't say i never did anything nice for you!
Quick question...
I have http://www.gamemp3s.net/category/releases/feed/ in uTorrent right now to automatically download the torrents when they come out. That link doesnt exist anymore. Is the new one just http://www.gamemp3s.net/category/newreleases/feed/ ?
Oh, yeah, sorry about that. The feeds will have changed.
- /category/news/feed/ becomes /category/general/feed/
- /category/other/feed/ becomes /category/general/feed/
- /category/releases/feed/ becomes /category/newreleases/feed/
Podcasts should be the same. I don't remember what the archive torrents were listed under before (and i guess it doesn't matter since they're done 'til next year), but now they're /category/archivetorrents/feed/.
There's so little actual content on the site that a fixed width (like 750 px or whatever) would be a great thing. Not only is it a bit uncomfortable to read the text when it spans so wide on higher resolutions, but e.g. the release page doesn't look so good with all that empty space.
The color scheme is quite nice. Have you considered to remove the borders around the green comments, though? Would look a lot less busy.
Wow, the new layout already ^o^! I don't like the aesthetics very much (but it's just a matter of taste), however for the rest I found it handy and well-organized. Good job!
Regarding the comments, they are easier to read now, and they look good.
Thanks for your work, lavender =)
The site and this page load up fine for me in Firefox. no issues what so ever. and the comment on the DC logo is, meh, just thought it was funny, thats all. I know you are working on everything, and you probably don't like the idea, but why not have rotating images where the "DC" logo is? Like of the Meteos characters or whatever they are. anyways, Looks nice :)
Don't like is much...
Incorporate a blue style, keep the top bar as it is, move the links categories from right to left, keep the font...voila...
For some reason, the stylesheet was not being imported in firefox 2. I still am not sure why, but for right now I'm forcing the CSS using Stylish
comment #55
I was just playing around with things..It would seem it was a linkifying greasemonkey script. I was already annoyed at the fact it didn't function as it should, so I dont mind getting rid of it.
Never should've doubted you ;)

Emil's remark on comment boxes is exactly what I had on mind. Just remove the borders from green comments instead of "wrapping every other comment in a box". No other element on the site has borders, so the green comments stick out far too much - it's like they're more important than the white ones.
Oh, and Adamtehgreat's idea was good. I, too, think that it's not easy enough to distinguish between news. Maybe the topics should be in green?
Green has very poor contrast to white compared to black; it would be worse.
I removed the comment borders.
"Green has very poor contrast to white compared to black; it would be worse."
Yeah, you're absolutely right, it won't work. Perhaps the h3 font should be bigger then? 17 px might be good, at least the topic and the album names in the post wouldn't look so same anymore. Anyways, I think the bottom border line should be 2 pixels or more; even that would help.
Good job on the page.
Its very refreshing however funny i have to get used to look at right instead of left as i normally did. Heh but in anycase good job i look forward to the future using of the page.
I would like to see more color in the texts, for exemple, in the titles.
In general, i like de site, congratulations!!
17 px it is!
What design? I don't see anything but a bunch of text. Change it back!
trouble-shooting question #1:
are you using lynx
comment #65
Sorry to bother again but I haven't found the tracker link. Did that disappear or am I blind? Could someone please post the tracker url so I can bookmark it. Thanks
comment #67
Thanks! I like to see how many people are downloading stuff without having to open Azureus. It takes forever to update safepeer and if I don't plan on downloading anything.... Can't wait until PG2 is Vista ready! :)
Loved the green color! Thank you for all of your efforts. Greetings from Mexico.
It's much better without the borders, thank you. I also like the very subtle green tone of the "non so green" background. Just green enough to be noticed.
The only complaint left is that at night without any lights on the brightness of the site kills my eyes. And the menu on the right still messes up my brain because it expects the menu to be on the left. But anyway, I like the new layout. And thanks again for re-doing the comments borders, it's really better without them.
I am not using Lynx, but all I get is a bunch of text for the main page (using Firefox 1.x), but the comment pages turn up fine.
@jt4703:
While I support your recommendation regarding peer/seed stats, there's really no point in PG2 or SafePeer...Dump them. They're just slowing you down. (better yet, switch to uTorrent for your BT client)
@Sam:
Check the 'releases' section.
@Aqua:
Clear your cache?
kuhhhhhhhhh
Brant thinks i shouldn't have changed the path to the RSS feed, so he changed it back.
For those of you who've already changed your BitTorrent clients to point to the new releases feed, you should change it back to /category/releases/feed/. Sorry. :\\\\
I'll put a note in Godai's post.
@ Atreus
I'm confused by your reply. I use safepeer/peer guardian to keep bad IPs out. I know it slows me down but I'd rather be safer than get nasty letters from my ISP about downloading copyrighted material.
I wanted the tracker link to bookmark so I wouldn't have to open Azureus (I do not keep it open all the time) and wait for safepeer to load just to see the stats on a torrent. I liked the tracker link right there, but bookmarking works too. :)
My computer BSOD'd when I scrolled down this comments page too quickly. Although I am guessing that is probably an XP/IE7 problem and not one with #gamemp3s.
nope i was hackin ur pc
comment #78
I am using Firefox 1.5.0.11 and all I see is text.
Clear your cache?
"I am using Firefox 1.5.0.11 and all I see is text."
Same here with FF2.0.0.3. Just white background and black text.
I'm using firefox 2.0X and I also only see text on the main page. The comments seem to be working fine.
It is not my cache - as that was cleared last night; it also isn't adblock or any of my plugins, as i turned them off to check.
I wonder why the comment pages turns out light green while the main page simply remains white with the generic black/blue text on it.
OK, i have no idea why it would matter whether you're on the comments page or not. The header file is exactly the same on every single page on the site, there should be no difference at all.
Per the comments made one way or the other as to whether the style sheet works in Firefox:
good
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.0; en-US; rv:1.8.1.3) Gecko/20070309 Firefox/2.0.0.3
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.1.3) Gecko/20070309 Firefox/2.0.0.3
broken
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.0; en-US; rv:1.8.1.3) Gecko/20070309 Firefox/2.0.0.3
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.1.3) Gecko/20070309 Firefox/2.0.0.3
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.0.11) Gecko/20070312 Firefox/1.5.0.11
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.12) Gecko/20050915 Firefox/1.0.7
The top two (the latest official Firefox release on Vista and XP, respectively) overlap, which seems to rule out the brower itself. This is the same version i have on my home and work computers, and on neither of those have i ever had any problems with the style sheet.
If you have any extensions related to content-rendering, including AdBlock, Greasemonkey, Firebug, and Style Sheet Chooser, try disabling them, emptying your cache, and restarting the browser. Tell me if that does anything!
edit: Syl, when you say you 'turned them off' do you mean you did the above? If not, can you try that?
This is just great!!!! Congratulation, keep the good work up!!!
I'm also having the text-only problem. I've got the latest version of Firefox(just installed a minute ago) cleared the cache, and even uninstalled AdBlock and Greasemonkey just to be safe. Unfortunately, none of that fixed the problem.
This is nice, I'm still trying to get used to though, good job! :D
comment #86
BTW im fine with foxy.
Tracker link is great and firefox is working well for me. Thanks!
Liking the new layout a lot. Very nice, very sleek. Keep up the good work!
I guess i'm stumped, guys. I'd be willing to do some more in-depth trouble-shooting (over IRC or MSN or whatever) if any of you Firefox people want to help me figure out what the problem is. :/
comment #90
I disabled Adblock, cleared my browser cache, and restarted and it's still only showing black text with no graphics whatsoever (except for the RSS logo at the very bottom).
Hmm a very smooth mint color (like some walls here at home)
Love it!
I found the issue, it has to do with the "linkification" plugin, i have no idea how, or why, but i went through all of my plugins and the page displays fine as long as linkification is inactive, but when the plugin is active - it only shows a white background and black text.
Weird.
Oh wow. I'm logged in with Linkification now and i see what you mean. But that affects every page for me; some of these people are saying it doesn't affect the comments one. So i would be surprised if that explained the problem for everybody.
That really helped, Syl! I got it fixed now. What I did was go into Options in Linkification, then Functionality, and this is what I have at the bottom: "localhost,google.com,gamemp3s.net," so it knows not to work on this site. Bingo! Thanks.
Well, I turned off Linkification for this site and it now displays properly for me as well. And thanks for making the logo a link.
That's pretty ridic. I don't know enough about how Linkification actually works to explain why that happens, but OK. As long as it works for you guys. If anybody else has any problems, you can leave a message here.
Looks great guys. Great job on the new look.
What happened to all the track lists in the release archive?
I've gotta add them all to the database. :(
