#gamemp3s and Galbadia Hotel

Over the past couple of years, many of #gamemp3s rips have made their way to the popular direct download site, Galbadia Hotel. Unfortunately, they have not made that transition intact.

#gamemp3s prides itself on high quality mp3 releases of old and new game music releases. While we realize we do not have the rights to what we make available (that's a whole other thing) and therefore cannot control what happens to our releases, we still feel alot of work and money is put into making #gamemp3s what it is.

The admins at Galbadia Hotel have agreed to make a statement that the uploading of #gamemp3s releases will not be permitted from this point on, and we thank them for their understanding.

Thank you for your support.

I think Galbadia Hotel just needs to disappear.

I'll play the devil's advocate here.
GH helps a lot when I need an album that is not being seeded in #gamemp3s anymore, so it would be nice if you guys could allow them to upload it, but only some time after the album is uploaded here or something like that.

That won't be necessary use the Archive torrents.

That means downloading like 30 albums (if I want the World of Warcraft album, download the W - Z torrent?) just so I can get one? :/

That just means you can enjoy all of the other music that you're missing out on! :P Plus if you already have some albums on the torrent, you don't have to redownload.

I don't really get where all the GH hate is coming from. Unless you're angry at individual song downloads, dupes, and it generally being messy, they don't really hurt anyone and are receptive to requests.

Vincent, The ability to download whatever file you want from a batch torrent file has been available for a long time. You do not have to download the whole thing.

Of course Galbadia Hotel contributors have to respect #gamemp3s work. However I saw that some of them upload the tracks (sometimes rare or not-yet-released ones) that they rip from game CDs/DVDs, or OSTs that #gamemp3s hasn't released and maybe won't release.
I'm not a member of GH forum, so I can't enjoy many of those tracks (you know, you must register to see links), but yeah, GH can be useful, too. Now that the uploading of #gamemp3s releases will not be permitted, it's all right, isn't it ^_~?

I've used Galbadia Hotel for some obscure finds but being apart of the game music community, they must understand and respect the ripper's work and contributions by keeping the associations in tact or else. Don't want to tred any further though as this is a rickety topic unless we're dealing soully with out-of-prints and rips.

I'll agree that I've used GH for some extremely rare albums, but their tagging system is atrocious! Not to mention the fact that you can never be quite sure what you're getting...

So a bit of a mixed blessing, I suppose, but I much prefer #gamemp3s! \(^-^)/

I can clearly understand the frustration in seeing your hard work get toss out the window, so I support this move 100%. However, I will say that GH has also been helpful to me for finding some hard to find albums that were never posted over here (or anywhere else for that matter). But that leads you to having to join a forum which I'm not too crazy about. A certain "creepy" element just makes me cringe over there.

But yes, credit needs to be given when it is due.

"I will say that GH has also been helpful to me for finding some hard to find albums that were never posted over here (or anywhere else for that matter)."

That's quite contradictory considering GH does nothing beyond host other people's encodes. Let's remember that this isn't a release-group we're talking about here, alright.

I’d prefer it if Galbadia Hotel were allowed to archive however they wished without problems. Nothing is easier and faster than direct download, after all. This is really going to be a major pain in the ass for a lot of people, all thanks to bureaucracy. I really don’t see how that’s good for anyone in the long run.

Too bad that downloading from GH is a hassle, unless you'll donate and get the change to download full albums instead one track of a time.

And too bad that the site's layout is so horrible that I want to pluck my eyes out when I see it.

And too bad the owner (he/she/it) is what is it. You all probably already know.

Never liked GH and only used the site a couple of times for a few albums. I wasn't pleased with what I got from there so I never used them again. Quality is terrible (there were songs at 128kbps cbr and lower.. ugh) and if they've got "stolen" gamemp3s tracks, you can often find at least one corrupted track in an album. Corrupted as in there's some audible glitch at some point of the song.

Korki, calm down. As I said, the albums that I spoke of weren't anywhere else; and believe me, I looked for them. It just so happened that they were over at GH.

Could my statement about that "certain creepy element" go with yours?

It's been a huge while since GH has uploaded their load of OST's. I don't think that they're doing a good job updating their websites and adding new soundtracks despite the latest full-album links in their forums. They've only added one soundtrack recently, and it's Pac-Man Fever, but who would have the guts to download it? Probably not many people would like this album. Can't GH boost their OST collection by adding more OST's. Especially the Jojo no Kimyo na Boken Capcom OST. I've been waiting for that for a long time. If they're going to offer OST's that this site has and GH does not, of course they would rip the mp3's on their own and not use gamemp3's source! Did you know about KH Insider? They've existed since late 2006, and got mostly the same as GH. Of course, KHI would soon have OST's that this site has, but what that site hasn't. They would rip their own music (Of Course!), and definitely not gamemp3's source. However, the archives could possibly be updated someday later.

as of last night (6/14/08) you can't access GH at all - not the site, not the forum. FF just comes up with a

Server not found
Firefox can't find the server at gh.ffshrine.org.

So, is this a glitch? someone forget to pay their hosting site? someone take the money and run? or has the site been shut down? Anyone know anything?

Just curious. I've been there a few times. The site is (was?) kind of messy, but a friend told me they had anime and game music, so I had to check it out.

From what i have gathered from reconnaissance, the site owner got IDThefted and thus lost funding for the site. Hence the emergency donation request, which has failed (404'd) despite me handing over some $$.

This sucks so much that i'd kill any ID thief i see mercilessly.

Also, maybe you can allow them to host your works WITH CREDIT to you as an 'alternate mirror' for non-savvy fail users who need to learn2Bittorrent.

And i doubt if i'll ever get to see you guys rip the Fate/Stay Night Game OST (talking about the visual novel here, but possibly also the PS2 arcade fighting game partdev'd by cavia, 8ing and CAPCOM due by December. [ http://www.capcom.co.jp/fate_uc ])...which they had on GH, but I failed to get all of them. inb4 /r/, this is not an explicit request.

@juswondering:
What happened to the site currently is that they need $2,000-$2,500 to continue running that site
